Timberlake Wertenbaker's Our Country's Good examines the leadup to the first performance of a play by Europeans in Australia. The First Fleet convicts rehearse Farquar's The Recruiting Officer. At times poignantly moving and at others hilariously funny, Our Country's Good, adapted from Thomas Kennealy's novel The Playmaker, pits imagination against bitterness and brutality and finds through the redemptive nature of the theatre, the possibility of a new future.
