Look like the innocent flower but be the serpent under it There is not an ounce of fat on Macbeth. From its beginning with the armed, bloody rebellion against the loved and long reigning monarch to the final, ignominious slaughter of his tyrannical murderer, it's a play that travels at breakneck speed, exploring those forces that act on its central character and those about him. Torn between his desire for advancement and guilt at the actions needed to achieve it, Macbeth's tale is one of ambition, deception, murder and that surrender to darker forces that comes with having ventured so far that there is no return. Not only is Macbeth a sublime examination of one flawed man's psychology, it's in the end a rollicking, good yarn, full of witches and murders and blood and guts and passionate lovers.
