Anthony Burgess' novel A Clockwork Orange, immortalised in Stanley Kubrick's 1971 film, has been adapted several times for the theatre. This is Burgess' own and last adaptation. The play is the story of Alex, a delinquent teenager and (in this production) her droogs, (besties), who take drugs to help them pillage, bash and rape. What else is there to do on a Saturday night? The state catches up with Alex and attempts to remove her choice to act violently using a controversial behaviour modification technique. The moral ambiguity of the technique piques the public imagination but youth violence is rampant. Something must be done and is. Has Alex been cured? Is the state as morally bankrupt as Alex?
WARNING: THIS PRODUCTION
CONTAINS SCENES OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE. IT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN. |
